Longing for the nights IN

Well, that's me in from a 7 nights in a row stint of being out (or 6 nights really). After the last week and doing the RTG Tom Stoppard show, which finished on Saturday I'm really pleased with how the RTG shows have turned out but I'm also glad they have come to an end as it'll be good to get a rest. In fact I am very much longing for a nice quiet night IN now! As I miss being able to chill out, its funny going from one extreme to another.

Anyways. I had the first of (or second I missed last weeks class) Iain McAleese's classes tonight and it was not too bad, the first half was text analysis of Shakespeare's MacBeth, however being 7pm at night and after so many nights out my brain simply wasn't taking it in. But the second half was fun as we moved into working on the scenes in pairs. Looks like it will be a promising six weeks ahead with Iain again (and no doubt challenging!). So we'll see how that goes.

Anyway that's all for now, I need to rest....

Hear Hear Mr Chairman!

Well (see I DO start posts with well quite a bit!) that's the first two nights of the Tom Stoppard double bill in so far and its been great fun to do. The first night despite a few fluffed lines and jitters went well, but I felt tonight went very well indeed and we had a really good audience tonight (no offence to the first night's audience!). Albert's Bridge has been a lot of fun to be a part of, and yes fairly hard work too, trying to remember lines for myself isn't that much of a breeze, but one of the scenes in the play (namely the first one going down the ladder addressing the painters which is hard as hell!) has been a nightmare to try and get right. It just shows how difficult the craft of acting actually can be. But so far its been a blast and the cast have all worked really hard, Stephen Redman who plays Albert the main part of our play has had a real tough job as its such a wordy role but he's pulled it off admirably. The rest of the cast have been great too, especially well everyone (and yes Alasdair, you might read this blog, so I will mention you! Yep mate, you did great as Fraser (BANG!), Bob (watch me feet Charlie!) and Dave (Hear hear Mr Chairman!!). Charles Donnelly as the Chairman and Father and Dad has also been hilarious to work with too, he's great (very much an actor that's hard to keep a straight face in front of!).

I felt the other play of the double bill I'll be Glad you'll be Frank has gone very well too, and I enjoyed seeing the final dress rehearsal on Tuesday and the cast all did great there too, especially Natalie Clark who played the main role, it was a superb performance she gave, Peter Lamb also did great too (he looks alot like Iain McAleese in fact, yeah yeah!) not to mention I enjoyed my fellow thesp actor's role Scott who played one of the porters.

So with two nights down and another two to go I've really enjoyed finally getting to act in the main part of the Ramshorn Theatre, so hopefully I will get the chance to do some more at some point this century (if not this year!). So we'll see. That's all for now. Time for bed.

Tom Stoppard's bridge

I've been a bit secretive about what's going on the acting front so I might as well announce that I have a small part coming up in one of the Radio Theatre Group's Tom Stoppard plays, Albert's Bridge. Well actually its two parts, Charlie a bridge painter and George, a disgruntled council member (I seem to always get the grumpy parts! Not that I'm complaining I quite enjoy them ;-).

Albert's Bridge was a radio play back from the 1960's which RTG director Bruce Downie is doing something rather interesting with by staging the radio play as an actual play so this will be a bit of new challenge for me to be involved in full ensemble piece in the actual theatre of the Ramshorn! (as opposed to the foyer where I performed last year for the lunchtime matinees). So the rehearsals are well under way and we are finally getting into the theatre tomorrow to rehearse and get into the space of the theatre, which I'm looking forward to very much. Not to mention getting to perform 4 nights in a row at the Ramshorn will be a real challenge, and the cast have been fine to work with so far, so hopefully we will all get our lines right on the nights (at least I hope!). At any rate I look forward to being part of the final product and I'll post up some more once the plays go out.
